Hey Jedi welcome to the 31st edition of the Identity Jedi Newsletter!

Yesterday was Identity Management Day, sponsored by the Identity Defined Security Alliance ( IDSA). If only it fell on a Wednesday…but alas. A lot of good tips and tricks are posted around socials. You can search for the hashtags #IDMGMTDAY23 and #BeIdentitySmart to see all the fun. They also hosted a free conference, but I forgot to register beforehand, and it wouldn’t let me register the day of….( womp womp).

However, that wasn’t the only exciting thing to happen yesterday…..drum roll, please

( Yes, I’m totally doing a drum roll on my office desk right now..well, not right now because I’m obviously typing, but…you get the point).

Identity Intervention

Over the past few months, I’ve been working with the great team over at S3 Consulting to put together the greatest IAM assessment program the world has ever seen. Yesterday we announced it to the world.

“Identity is hard”. We’ve heard these words thousands of times but it doesn’t have to be. Together with S3 we’ve built an assessment program that doesn’t just tell you what you already know but gives you the tools and guidance you need to fix it. We’re pretty excited about it! I

If you’ve hit a wall with your identity program or just want to have a strategy session and talk through some things, this is for you. Hit the link below for all the details

Sharing is caring Jedi. Give someone you know the happiness that is receiving this newsletter in their inbox every week.

Also, it’s NBA Playoff Season! Lakers won their play-in game, and I’m a very happy fan! 🏀

Let’s Get to the Good Stuff!

  • Multicloud identity challenges

  • AI and Identity

  • 1Kosmos and ForgeRock

Multi-cloud identity challenges

Mult cloud is real, and it’s a problem. Imagine a scenario where a single admin has access to thousands of permissions across multiple cloud infrastructures. Not scared yet? Add the fact that workload identities currently outnumber human identities 10:1. Consolidation and new way of approaching identity are needed.

AI and Identity

We are full-fledged down the rabbit hole now with AI. It’s everywhere now, and the ramifications are interesting. On the one hand, AI-powered deepfake technology can be used for malicious activities such as identity fraud, where individuals or organizations impersonate others to deceive or steal information. On the other hand, AI can also be used to enhance traditional identity authentication methods, including biometric authentication, by detecting anomalies and identifying presentation attacks.

1Kosmos and ForgeRock

1Kosmos has announced the integration of its BlockID passwordless authentication with ForgeRock Access Manager, enabling customers to modernize the onboarding experience for users and implement identity-based passwordless authentication on all ForgeRock protected applications. The integration enables organizations to add identity verification and passwordless authentication to ForgeRock protected applications with just a few simple mouse clicks, reducing friction associated with onboarding and authentication. BlockID provides secure, automated employee onboarding with self-service identity proofing and passwordless access to corporate applications, data, and resources. The integration also enables organizations to implement a zero-trust security model by verifying the identity of individuals accessing ForgeRock protected consumer, corporate and government systems, applications and data.

“Partnerships are just companies deciding if they want to date or get married” - Identity Jedi

The Last Word

Identity is security.

That’s what we want customers to believe. It’s the story we’ve told them for at least the last 4 years. We’ve told them how important identity is to the overall security architecture, we’ve shifted our focus to security leaders. We talked the talk, but didn’t quite walk the walk because we knew we couldn’t.

We weren’t ready.

Identity has been on the sidelines when it comes to security. Part of the game, but not actually in the game, but that is changing.

I’ve mentioned ITDR ( Identity Threat Detection and Response) before, and I’m convinced it’s part of the next evolution of identity. But it will come at a cost.

It will mean a new way of thinking about identity and data and new skills. It’s time we learn the ways of security Jedi.

Should be fun
