Hey Jedi welcome to the 37th edition of the Identity Jedi Newsletter!

Since last we spoke, the Denver Nuggets eliminated my Los Angeles Lakers. Needless to say, I’m devasted.

And that’s all I have to say about that.

We are down to the last week of May and just shy of the goal of reaching 400 subs in May. So let’s get active Jedi, share your referral link, and rack up some free swag in the process!!

Looking for a modern way to approach User Access Reviews? You should give YouAttest a try. I love the mindset behind their approach. Automated first and implement fast. Check them out and tell them the Identity Jedi sent ya.

Let’s Get to the Good Stuff!

  • CyberArk the new identity powerhouse?

  • Identiverse Sessions I’m excited for

  • Apple, the identity company?

A new power rises?

I’ve talked before about the platform wars that would take place in identity. Although Okta fired the first shot with their announcement of their IGA and PAM products. CyberArk has been busy building what they are touting as the first Identity Security Platform. We all know they have been the superpower in Privileged Access Management, but over the past couple of years, they’ve invested across the board in the identity space. SSO, MFA, Endpoint, Secrets Management, and the latest product, an Identity Security-based browser. Not sure I see the vision with this product, but it’s no question CyberArk wants to be seen as THE superpower in the identity industry. Let’s see who decides to challenge. Get your popcorn ready. 🍿 🍿

Identiverse Sessions I’m excited for ( Besides mine, of course)

Ok, so Identiverse is next week. A jam-packed couple of days in Las Vegas after the official summer kick-off weekend. ( Memorial Day).

There are so many sessions that caught my eye this year, and it’s going to be hard to choose between some, but here are my top five I will definitely be checking out.

Extra points if you can spot the pattern..lol.

So let me know what sessions are you looking forward to.

Apple The Idenity Company?

Did we all miss that Apple, over the past decade, has become an identity company? With the release of TouchID/FaceID, then ApplePay, Sign-In with Apple, and now their work to support mobile driver’s licenses (mdl). Apple is creating an ecosystem where a user’s identity is seamlessly transferred between their devices and accessible to the world. All without a single mention of “traditional” roles for identity. Do a search of Apple careers, and you don’t see anything mentioning identity positions. Never seen Apple at a single conference when it comes to identity. Yet they could have a huge impact on the way identity is consumed. A complete rollout of mdl allows me to leave home with just my iPhone and accomplish almost anything I would want to do on a normal day. And I could easily see that being a normal thing in the next 5 years, given how fast technology spreads. Think about it. 10 years ago the thought of biometrics on a cell phone wasn’t widely accepted. Then Apple rolls out TouchID. 3 years later, FaceID. And now it’s just the norm.

Granted, IOS doesn’t have nearly the market share that Android does. However, the share of the market they do have is influential because it’s the one with enough discretionary income to pay $1000 for a cell phone. At this point, the cell phone capabilities of an iPhone are an afterthought. It’s become much more than that, and with that, so has Apple.

Just food for thought.

It’s a Party Bus!!

I’m linking up with the crew over at Acense to have one helluva night in Vegas! Spots are filling up fast and so make sure you get your spot reserved. Just drop me an email and I’ll get your name on the list!

The Last Word

We are in for a fascinating couple of years, friends. AI is all the rage, and you can’t help but see an article or news story about this technology. It’s moving its way into every product you can think of and has all the signs of completely disrupting industries. It’s made it’s way to cybersecurity products, and you can bet it will find it’s way into identity. Add to that the next evolution of identity ( verifiable credentials, decentralized identity, decentralized applications) will change how we think about current use cases. I bet that one of the major players in the platform wars ( Okta, CyberArk, OneIdentity, SailPoint, etc.) will make a major announcement around LLM/AI in the next 24 months.

It might be sooner…Identiverse anyone?

Time will tell.

Nuggets suck…

Just kidding, Chris.
